We started this show with some fresh new industrial, goth, and darkwave songs. Then we played a set of synthpop and minimal wave tracks, including some requested ones (thanks, Amanda!). We followed that with a set of goth, darkwave, and synthwave with a vague underlying summer theme. That was followed with some goth and darkwave tracks from around the world. The fifth block was a set of psychedelic-leaning post-punk, and we finished the show with a set of shoegaze tracks.

Episode 224: 5/21/2023: World Goth Day Edition

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#224’ on it.

This is our 2023 World Goth Day Show, with an emphasis on world because we played goth, darkwave, post-punk, deathrock, etc. bands from all around the world, with an emphasis on lesser-known bands and a mix of recent and older tracks. Each block of the show featured bands/artists from a specific continent. (Sorry, but we left out Antarctica because we don’t know of any bands from there.) We started with Africa, then moved on to Asia, then Australia/New Zealand, and then Europe. The North American block consisted of tracks by bands/artists from Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Then we wrapped up the show with a set of bands from South America.

We began this show with some tracks featuring the late Mark Stewart (of The Pop Group). Then we closed the show with a set of kosmische/krautrock and spacey noise rock.

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#220’ on it.

We began this show with a set of new tracks. Then we played some goth, post-punk, and darkwave tracks, and a couple of Yellow Magic Orchestra songs (RIP Ryuichi Sakamoto). That was followed with a set of noisy and industrialized hip-hop tracks. The fourth block was a set of noise rock, metal, and punk tracks. The fifth set was a mix of psychedelic, krautrock, kosmische tracks. Then we wound down the show with some shoegaze, experimental, and ambient tracks.

Note: this was a pre-recorded show. I had problems with my microphone so the segues were done by Daniel, from The Uncanny Valley (i.e., the Mac OS speech synthesizer). I used this because the segues wouldn’t have been recorded otherwise.
