Episode 61: 11/4/2018

Our old foes The Radio Gremlins returned to sabotage the show by breaking the microphone but we persevered and went on anyway. We started with industrial and post-punk tracks related to the upcoming election, the media, the downfall of society. We had a set in honor of our friend DJ D (the host of the excellent show Dark Entries: Goth Radio, which was very much an influence on our show), which we followed in the last hour by autumnal ambient to continue the autumn afterglow going after Halloween.

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#60’ on it.

Not only did we hit a milestone by reaching episode #60 but it’s also the second Half Machine Lip Moves Halloween special. We started this episode with some industrial songs about the Halloween season. Then we had a dark punk and post-punk set, a deathrock set fresh out of the grave, an eerie horror set, a midnight block in the death industrial mortuary, and we closed with a block of fun goth.

Episode 59: 10/21/2018 - 2018 Dark Ambien(t) Special

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#59’ on it.

It’s late October so it’s time for the spooky and atmospheric 2018 Dark Ambien(t). We began with a descent into the shadowy underworld of dark ambient, we had a rain-themed set, a block of music found while trawling through the dark ambient caverns of Bandcamp, made a trip into the haunted house where dark ambient and death industrial meet, a set of ritualistic dark ambient for the midnight block, and we closed with a set spacey dark ambient. We recommend turning out the lights out and listening through headphones, but that’s your call.

Episode 58: 10/14/2018

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#58’ on it.

We started this episode with a block of songs from new and upcoming releases. Things took a turn and went into a weird haunted off-kilter lo-fi direction, starting with no wave and atonal folk and then going into warped and haunted versions of more popular music. After that we went into experimental audio collages and took a brief look at the world of numbers stations, which was followed by phantasmal noise and ambient.

Episode 57: 10/7/2018

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#57’ on it.

This episode started with some L.O.T.I.O.N., which inspired a block of digital hardcore and techno-punk. Then we went into a set of crunchy power noise. That was followed by a darkwave/post-punk set of mostly recent material, incluing a track from the upcoming Holygram album. The next block started with a requested song from the new Author & Punisher album and a spacey set inspired by a friend in California who watched a Space X satellite launch. The midnight block brought a mix of strange experimental and horror movie music (‘cause it’s October), and we closed with selections from the October album of Aube’s Millennium Collection.

We started our last episode of September with a mix of industrial and darkwave. Then we played a set of EBM and industrial punk, which was followed by more material from England’s Hidden Reverse. After that was an industrial-strength autumn anticipation block. We kicked off the midnight hour with a dark post-punk/deathrock set, and we closed with a dark ambient set since it’s now October.

Episode 55: 9/23/2018: England's Hidden Reverse

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#55’ on it.

We finally got around to the England’s Hidden Reverse episode, which takes a look into the intertwined careers of Coil, Current 93, and Nurse With Wound. We started with Coil, since they were my introduction to this scene, and Throbbing Gristle, who paved the way for Coil. Then we went into the nightmarish culture from the early portions of the hidden reverse, played a set featuring some of the many works of Rose McDowall (who has done numerous collaborations with these artists), which was followed by a set featuring works of Coil members, and a set of works by Coil’s members after the end of Coil, and we closed with an ambient drone block of Coil and Nurse With Wound.

Episode 54: 9/16/2018

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#54’ on it.

We started this episode some industrial metal, then we followed that with an electro-EBM or whatever you call it block. Then there was some face-melting noise rock, a dark post-punk block (with a bit more emphasis on the punk side), a coldwave/minimal wave set that sort of referenced the Cold War and the Eastern Bloc, then we ended with an ambient set themed around the Sun.

In this episode we started with some industrial metal, then we went into an EBM set. After that we delivered the synthpunk set that was promised in last week’s show. Then there was an ambient wall noise set, then we set the autumn mood with some dark ambient and closed with Coil and a ride down a dark slide on the Moon.

Episode 52: 9/2/2018

Half Machine Lip Moves logo with ‘#52’ on it.

Last week’s show was weird, so we decided to do something resembling an orthodox industrial show. We started with some industrial, then we played some old school EBM. That was followed by a set of dark but danceable EBM, perfect for your next dance party at Bunker Gate 7 (sorry, but you’ll have to bring your own glowsticks). After that was a set of what our listener and friend Ipsy calls, “Pants with spare change left in the pockets rattling around inside the dryer industrial.” Then we had an Amanda and Jason pandering block, and we ended with some synth noise.
